There is a 1991 South Carolina SSP for sale locally. I have not seen the car (yet), but I have been corresponding with the seller. Once he gives me more details, I plan to post a thread in our for sale section. He did send me some pictures for our Project, which I used to create the following page:

There are two other SC cars confirmed in the same DSO. It looks like a nice car too. I may catch up with him this weekend at the Faulkner Police Cruise Night in West Chester, PA. Here is the info on that show:

So while I was attending the Faulkner police car cruise last night, I had the opportunity to speak with a retired Maryland State Police Trooper, who was there to help with the driving duties of one of the several tasty Maryland State Police vehicles on display. He informs me that Maryland actually bought SSP Mustangs, which was news to me. He said that they bought roughly 50 SSPs in 1989. These were not used as patrol vehicles, but instead by detectives and other officers. He was certain of the year, but said the number could have been less than 50, as he remembered it.

Soooooo, it appears as though there is a batch of 1989 Maryland SSPs that are yet to be found. ;) Looking at our VIN Project, there are quite a few possibilities:

-40 VINs starting at 136342
-83 @ 191970
-50 @ 220499
-65 @ 224093
-61 @ 230502
150 @ 238561
100 @ 242294
-46 @ 264885
-43 @ 271841
-39 @ 283972

I think a little time spent researching VIN histories has the potential to identify a block of previously unknown SSPs. We can then order a Marti Report(s) to confirm them as such. How cool would THAT be!?!?!

Great...more detective work to be done. :( Thanks, Bill! :p

Just kidding. :D I love doing this stuff! :D :D

I love excessive use of smilies too.

This is not much but none of those 677 VINs have current inspection info in the state of MD.

I was hoping that something would "jump of the page" in terms of the research. Since the information came from a retired Trooper, he may be a bit fuzzy on the details (i.e. off by a year or two). Regardless, thank for putting the time in to look for them.

My pool of "free" resources for checking VINs has dropped by one, and that one change is significant. :( On a positive note, I was able to find a VIN check on the MD DOT site. :) http://mva.mdveip.com/

Mick, do you want to divide the list of possible VINs and email them to me? It will get done twice as fast that way. We can divide it further if anyone else wants to run VINs to see if a pattern turns up. :)

Bill: I have no VINs on my plate right now to check. Did you have some in mind?

28HopUp 09-17-2013 08:57 AM

None specifically, other than the groups I posted earlier. Of course the Maryland State Police could have purchased the cars under more than one DSO number, with smaller batches of VINs.

FoxChassis 09-17-2013 09:11 AM

Here are the VINs that I have checked on MD DOT site:

If you have more groups of VINs in mind I can add them to that file.
