Trunk springs reinstall

Help! One spring on my car's trunk got knocked out/off. How do I go about reinstalling it. I'm tired of using an old broom stick to hold the trunk open. Do I have to pull off the trunk lid? I cannot twist it enough to get it back in place.

Those are a huge PITA. I fixed one half on one of my old GPD cars....just kept tugging at it until I got it back in.

How did they do it at the factory? I think that there is an easier way...I just have to find it. I think that I'll start out by pulling off the lid, leave the hinges on the car. That will give me room to climb in the trunk to work.

Plus you can't get locked inside if the lid closes on you :D

Today I finally got the trunk lid spring back in place. I took the lid off to make it easier to work inside the trunk. Using a couple of locking pliers I was able to get enough leverage to get the one side to slide into the hinge arm while the other side was hanging down low, but not in position. Once I got the one side into the hinge arm, it was easy to get the other side in position and up on the middle notch. I would say that it ended up being relatively easy, once you've got the right tools. There is no way I'd have gotten it just by hand.
