Cut wiring on lights

As per the title, how critical is it that the wires on the lights not be cut? I have found the Whelen Dashmiser that I need for the top of my rear window, but the wires are cut on it. I know most of the wiring is going to be hidden by interior panels, so is this that big a deal? Or, just splice on the cigarette lighter plug and off I go?

They are super easy to rewire.

You may want to open it to confirm which is the power and ground wires, if you hook them up reversed it can damage the unit. I hooked one I had up incorrectly and burnt up a resistor on the board and had to desolder it and solder in a new one.

Good to know. I would like to find a Dashmiser in newer appearing condition, so maybe I will sit back and be more patient. Most of them have different appearing mounting holes that do not match up with the holes in my car.
