Amarillo Here
Hi everybody.
I have a 1972 Dodge Polara (Ex-Texas Highway Patrol Car) - Unit No. D2-976. It's in fairly decent shape - but will be a project. I hope to get done by the end of the year, and will probably need some help locating some items from the membership here. I'm restoring it back to how it looked as a patrol car. That year, the state ordered 76 polaras - oddly enough with the 400ci engine as opposed to the 440ci. - 8 3/4 rear end, HD shocks and brakes, AC Cutoff Switch, 140 MPH Certified Speedo, etc... I know its not a mustang, but I Look forward to participating in the group. I do want a four eyed DPS car some day, to compliment the dodge Right now I could really use a DB702! :-) -Zed http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...54290786_n.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...20292388_n.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...95102905_n.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...58717540_n.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...49490754_n.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...32441114_n.jpg |
Welcome!!
That dodge is screaming to be driven in its current state, with the exceptions of going through the mechanicals and making it reliable, and a thorough cleaning. Sure is nice and original, unless that is green paint I see.. Never see any like that anymore. |
God awful state-applied green paint, yep!
I've already got the engine and tranny at the shop, and I'm prepping the car for Paint, so it's getting there. Zed |
Very cool! Thanks for posting!

Welcome! And I like it! Can't wait to see this one done!

Zed, welcome to the site! My wife's cousin is married to a retired New Jersey State Trooper, and I remember him at family gatherings going on and on about how much he loved the 1972 Dodge/Chrysler police cars - they were his all-time favorites.
I'm curious, is the in-service picture in your first post a photograph of your car? That would be very cool if it was. (even if not, it's still cool!) |
Thats awesome! Welcome and glad to see another Texas car being saved.

I have visions of Sugar Land Express going through my mind now.

Welcome aboard Zed! The only tricky thing about the 72 Polaras is the valance under the front bumper. It is prone to breaking and is difficult to find anymore.
Good luck and look forward to the build! |
Welcome...pretty cool too!
