#'s matching

How important is it to keep an ssp #'s matching?

To a SSP purist, numbers matching is more important than non-matching numbers. More valuable to a SSP purist too.

Yes, numbers matching is more valuable to the collector. Not necessarily a deal breaker but definitely a bartering point. But there's several ssp's out there that have been restored that aren't numbers matching.

With so many Ricky Racers getting these cars and modifying them, it's not unheard of for them to no longer have the original engine. Some that have been rescued were found as rollers without an engine or running but not the original engine.

As far as fenders, hood etc with VIN labels........heck it's so hard to read those things nowadays that I'm not sure how much value they hold anymore. I would say as long as it's an oem panel with a label, it will be fine. (Since you can't read them anyway lol).

Plus many if not the majority experienced some sort of engine and or trans failure in service and were replaced before ever being auctioned... Ive seen a couple GSP's with swapped in service engines ( one Ford replacement another out of another GSP). So while it is definately better on any car it may not effect SSP's as much as say a Shelby Mustang... My two cents...

I think the quality of a restoration has more impact on value than the use of non-original parts/components. Were OEM parts used, or cheap replacements? Was the car properly repaired/restored? How involved was the restoration (cosmetic versus rotisserie). Was the proper police equipment sourced and installed, or was it pieced together without any/much concern?
