New owner of an fhp SSP

I sold an 86 SVO to purchase this car. I bought it from a dealership in Murphy, NC. The dealership got it as a trade in. The previous owner bought it 19 years ago from a guy in Georgia that used to purchase them at the auction and resell them. The entire dash and center console was replaced right after the auction. The spot light was also deleted. The seats have been recovered with leather and look great. I talked to the previous owner and he doesn’t know anything about it’s service other than the vin is recorded as an SSP from the state. The buck tags are gone due to a front end collision in service 1996. I removed some of the interior and found the spotlight hole and tan roof paint. I know it was registered in the area where troop L is in Florida. I can only assume that’s where it was stationed.

That is a very nice looking Mustang. Looks new.
I do have a question though, have the door locks been changed out?
Oh, also have you checked the VIN registry to see if there is any additional info you might use?

Good luck with the car!

I did check the vin registry and came up with the SSP confirmation that it was titled as a police car. The locks were changed out! What prompted that question ?

The only reason I asked about the door locks is that in three of the photos the Bezels for the locks look dark or black and in one photo, with all the LE cars lined up, the bezel looks silver.
I don't know the dates the photos were taken or it may be I have to clean my glasses.

If, I remember correctly the SSP cars received the Single Key lockset which were produced with silver (stainless- I think) bezels. The dark bezels were on civilian cars.

It's STILL a beautiful car and it looks well done.
Wish I owned it.

Thank you. I thought they were all black. I’m still looking for a set of locks that are reasonably priced.

Nice car! Any restoration plans or leave as is?

Actually, I think the black door locks look great on a black car.
Kinda makes them "blend in or disappear" so that they don't catch your eye when first looking at the car. Makes the car look smoother or sleeker.

However, you may upset some purists. But if you are not restoring it to factory new, who cares. It's your car. Enjoy it.

I’m a moderate purist. I’d definitely prefer to have it look the way it came from the factory. Engine components are another story.

Cool! Have a great time!

Here’s an update. Since I’ve gotten the car I’ve put some hard to find parts back on. I found a Unity s6, single key locks (all 5) and FHP VentShades. Not sure where I’ll go next.
