1988 Ford Mustang SSP CHP 5.0 LX, Vin#1FABP40E7JF221400
5-speed Manual - Bolt-in Roll Cage -- Street & Race

1988 SSP CHP 5.0 MUSTANG WITH ROLL CAGE
From 1982 to 1993, Ford produced the Mustang Special Service Package SSP specifically to meet the needs of law enforcement. The customized 5.0 Mustang included special options not available to the public. A speedier alternative to traditional police sedans, it was used for patrol and pursuit. Most remaining Mustang SSPs are restored by collectors or enjoyed by racers.

This 1988 Mustang SSP includes these SSP features:

Original DMV/CHP Registration (shows that car is a bona fide CHP vehicle)
Original Ford buck-tag metal-plates on radiator support (again, bona fide CHP)
Certified calibrated 140-MPH speedometer (because it’s fast)
Engine oil cooler (for durability with high-RPM usage)
Reinforced floor pans (secure base for potential racing seats)
Black dial-phone style wheels (because cop cars have black wheels)
Manual courtesy lights (for stealthiness)
Trunk-lid release located under steering column (for quick-access to road flares)
Full size spare tire (because space savers are lame)
Single key locking doors/trunk (so you only need one key)
This car was put into service by the California Highway Patrol in April of 1988. In 1990, its first private owner installed the roll cage and prepared it to race in SCCA Showroom Stock class. As the second private owner, I’ve enjoyed its versatility. While being street-legal, this has also been a perfect car for Mustang Club open tracks and SCCA racing. It’s fun to drive, low maintenance, and easy to work on. After garaging it for 10 years, I spruced it up this year with new paint and tires. It’s been a great car, but it’s time to pass it on to someone else to enjoy.

New paint – black exterior
Stock 5.0 engine
Heavy-duty radiator
Larger alternator and power steering pulleys
Stock exhaust
Power steering
Air-conditioning
8.8 rear end with stock 3.08 gears and Power Trax locking differential
Stock T5 manual 5-speed transmission
Koni adjustable sport shock and struts
Ford Motorsports front and rear springs
Energy suspension bushings on front lower-control arms and rear upper-control arms
High-performance front brake pads
Stock 15x7 dial-phone style wheels
New tires: Fusion 225/60/15
Bolt-in 6-point Autopower roll cage
Roll cage allows easy in-and-out using driver and passenger doors (not Dukes-of-Hazard style through windows)
Roll cage is removable
3” racing seat belts on front seats
Please note:
Some interior panels are modified for roll cage
Windshield has small star chip on lower passenger side
Backs of front-seats have wear from contact with roll cage (visible in photo)

Ebay auction Cancelled

I went back to see the Ebay auction and noticed the owner cancelled the Ad. Says error in listing. If you go to the sold or closed auction section of ebay you will see the Ad.

I don't know if this is the same car but there is no mention (that I can see) that it is an SSP.

The VIN is in the right range for a CHP car.

Here is the original Auction

FHP813, Here is the original ebay auction link below. They relisted the Mustang same car but different text in the ad.

This is the same car. Looks like the sellers edited some of the auction text. In this text and photo it is listed with a CHP original registration document with the VIN.

I see. I wonder why they edited the ad? Looks to be all there.

1988 CHP SSP or NOT SSP on eBay

From what I see on eBay it is THE SAME CAR as the SSP that ended on the 18th with now NO references to an law enforcement use, etc. ????

11-99SanDiegoSheriff 02-26-2018 12:55 AM

OK now this is weird? The auction ended and it has been relisted but this time has it listed as a CHP SSP with DMV Temporary New Vehicle Registration and with the Buck Tags pictured in the new auction which with additional photos. I don't know why they 1st listed it as a CHP SSP then ended the auction relisted the 2nd time and removed any wording as to SSP or CHP. The auction needed not meeting the reserve set price and now relisted a 3rd time but with Buck Tags and DMV Documentation. Marlin
