ignition key release button

Did SSP's come with the white button under the steering column that releases the ignition key? Or was it deleted at the factory? My 1987 CHP does not have one but my 89 LX has one.
Just curious ........

I always wondered too. My '88 and '89 LXs had them but my '88 SSP doesn't.

I never noticed that my 85 didn't have one. I thought I had broke it off. Lol

I can see it being deleted. Just imagine the hassle the officer would have had with it

my 88 FHP had the release button.

I wonder if motor transport disabled them for CHP cars?

One of my SSPs has one and one does not.

my 88 has it. People just yank down and pull it out. No more button to deal with.

my 93 doesnt

Every single CHP Mustang I've dealt with has had the mechanism deleted. I'm sure they were purposely deleted by Ford for officer safety as it requires both hands to remove the keys with the release in place.

None of mine have it either. in fact I have the column out of my 92 GSP and compared it to a standard column and they are different not even got a hole for the release button. Will post pics in a few.
