1988 Mustang LX 5.0 SSP Police Pack - $17000 (East Bay Area)

Special Service Package Mustang Coupe (similar to CHP) used by the USAF to help U2 Spyplane pilots land. One of 19 USAF Mustangs. Possibly only one restored! USAF stenciling on underside of hood. Restoration completed in 2003/4. Well maintained. Approx. 58K miles. Just passed smog with flying colors! Over $800 spent in 2011 to fix smog-related problems. Runs and looks as new. This is a show car and not a daily driver. Has been in print and also won Gold under the Concours Driven category at a National Mustang Club of America show.

Asking $17,000. Documentation goes with car. •Location: East Bay Area

I don't remember hearing/reading that the USAF ordered 19 SSPs total. I don't doubt that, but it would be great if we could pin down the VINs on those other cars.

if it was a 1992 I would have to go get myself a second mortgage.

Jim, if you got rid of your 88 Missouri car, then you would have a vacancy to fill. ;)

The "One of the eight ordered in 1988" reference in the jaxfox.com article matches up with the group of eight in the VIN Project that this car for sale is part of...

A hugely important and historical vehicle that would not be out of place in a museum. Surprisingly, it doesn't seems to attract a ton of attention at car shows compared to marked LE SSPs. I've been at many, many shows with this car and have observed that most Mustang fans are interested enough in it to take a look but everybody else just sort of scratch their heads and move on. I'm pretty sure Charles Ricks had north of $20k in the original restoration and Keith has added to that figure.

I agree Mike. But that big ole yaller light bar kinda kills it for me.

Does anyone have any direct contact information for Keith?

While I would love to bring this car to Alabama, I wouldn't quite say that just yet. I've learned that someone else has been after this car for some time. If so, I wouldn't consider purchasing it out from under any one or getting into a bidding war of sorts. Plus, with transport costs, it may be a bit too much for us at this time.

NoDrama43 09-06-2013 02:56 PM

I can sell you an even dozen.......and I have a buddy that can bring them to your doorstep.......

they all need a little work though. :)

If anyone is interested in the car and ever wanted to attend the Ripon car show here is your chance. Ripon is less than a month away and about an hour away from where the car is located. Being a participant is always better than being a spectator.

end of commercial for the Ripon show.

17K foxbody on craigslist? Guess he thought that would be the quickest way to get it to the forums. Amazing SSP nonetheless. A museum and shows is where this one belongs!

USAF SSP

I've seen this car at the Ripon show. It is really nice.

GSPI 09-07-2013 12:38 AM

I have also seen this one in person at Ripon before and it really is a well done restoration.

John10608 09-07-2013 01:14 AM

It is a very clean car for sure ! You can eat off of or out of the engine compartment ! It is spotless. !!! As clean as the exterior.

This car was also featured in the Fox Mustang Magazine Issue 2 in 2012 sometime. As well as it was the cover photo for the magazine with that article. Very neat article by the way.

I am sure it will be at Ripon this year.

Jonathan, pay for fuel, I'll drive this car to Alabama for you !

Rhino 09-07-2013 12:53 PM

Knowing John....I believe he's dead serious.....he'd do it! :)

John10608 09-11-2013 08:47 PM

I am serious !!

lol

There are three others in that group of eight that look to be still on the road. Two in CA and one in PA. I have put up some want ads on CL in those areas, for info on the cars.
