Any “valid” interest in FHP0665?

It pains me to write this but I am entertaining the ideal of someone else taking over to reins to hopefully bring back FHP0665 to her old glory.

The short & sweet basics: 1988 FHP SSP that has been with me since October 1991 after going to auction when I purchased with only 78k miles on it (yes, 21 years ago). Currently it has 243k on the odometer as it was used for my daily driver until about 6-7 years ago when it was parked in my garage due to the clutch starting to go out on it (from what I assume). Up until that point, it was the best damn car I have owned to date! The last time I started it was about 3 years ago and it still ran strong with the exception of the clutch issue where it was starting to "gear grind" when the clutch pedal was released.

Before getting parked it had the usual minor oil leaks (valve covers – main seal) that caused me to top it off with about ¾ - 1 quart of extra oil between changes. The way I figured, it always had fresh oil in it. I’m quite sure sitting this long may have not “fixed” that issue. The other issues I recall would be the A/C that I did not repair after going out for the better part of the time I have owned the car, a leaky front windshield when it rained hard enough, and some pretty “loose” rear shocks. It is solid in every other way and virtually rust free.

I have had full intentions of resurrecting it for some time now but also have been plagued by the “time & money” issue. Besides having a personal attachment to it, the irony is that I am also a State Trooper and would love to retain a piece of history from the agency that I am employed by which is my dilemma. I also look at it every time I open my garage door and think it is being held captive for no purpose other than my own attachment.

Decisions… decisions… :No no:

Not many SSP's around with a story like that. Please post some pictures so we can convince you to keep it.

The exterior if fair and I had it painted with an average paint job back in 1992 which surprisingly held up well with the exception of around the windows where it has flaked and you can see the "Tan" peering through...

As you can see, the steel visor shades are intact however I removed the spotlight a few years back after it stopped working properly but I left the bracket for it and sealed up the hole.

Not to brag but the interior is bar none and I think you would be hard pressed to find one in better shape for a "daily driver". I did replace the "holy" dash and exercised the option to play CD's instead of just good 'ole AM/FM...

I think we should have another 'barn party', but this time in your garage to throw a new clutch in it. :)

Unfortunately I don't have the "Garage-Mahal" like someone I know here (which is a whole other problem in its self) but I do like your thinking!

DO NOT SELL THAT CAR!

If it is costing you nothing to keep it, then keep it. I'm sure we have enough members in Florida that would help you get her back on the road. Trust me you let the car go and you will kick yourself in the arse for the rest of your days.

That's a catch 22 situation at this point so I might as well disclose the other factor behind my madness. I just took delivery of one of these yesterday with 4k miles on it...

(Stock photo of course) I "intend" to keep this as a collectable. I already heard the "You can't keep both" line if you know what I mean.

Both cars are really nice. Neat story behind your SSP and that interior is really something!

You will regret selling it. I owned 3 SSP's in my early 30's (hit the auction circuit a alot) and regretted getting rid of each one. I was incredibly lucky to pick up my current one at auction 9 years ago and it will be near impossble to get it out of my grip.

Your new T/A should be nice. If you can only have one "toy", would it be possible to fix the minor issues with the SSP and make it your daily driver again? [keep in mind, I am also the guy who has made our GT/CS the "family car". :) ] If you sold your current daily driver you could take any proceeds and apply it to repairing the SSP and maybe offset some of the cost on the T/A. That could be a very easy sell to resistant ears. :D

I'm not in need of getting the Mustang fixed per se' as much as I am in need of being able to do what I would want with it if I was able to ever do it.

I love looking at Aaron's KHP car in the members section and could only wish to do what he has done with his. That is one fine example of a labor of love but it seem's he is afforded with the opportunity to do such. I have even given thought of trying to find a reputable place to take it and have it restored but I'm quite sure that would be way over my head in expense at the moment.

That brings me back to the current status of my life which revolves around the "time & money" issue. I've got quite a few years ahead of me (retirement wise) to be where I want to be and the wonderful Governor of this state has already set me back 3% from getting there any sooner.

I guess a time machine back to October 1991 could always help... anyone have one of those laying around? ;)
