82 CHP Gun rack on ebay

Anyone recognize the car;)
I am guessing that he is making reproductions? Seller also has whip clips. The brackets have to be shaped though.
Anyone know where I can get one of those shotguns? That would be perfect for my 85 and it is legal for a 16 year old too:)

That's Robert Reed's handle on EBay. :)

Wolfe1013 12-02-2011 01:14 AM

I came over to post this too. Look at the different design of this shotgun rack. That would explain why my '82 CHP and several others do not have holes on the dash next to the heater and ac controls. Is this the missing link? What do you think?

Time to go look at what few interior photos we have. To the Gallery!!...

Wow, only one interior photo that shows the shotgun rack and it's the "other" design that would put holes on my dash. But they're not there.

Wolfe1013 12-02-2011 01:31 AM

Edit: I take that back. Really study the interior photos. Look at the Magazine Article section, too. The left radio mic is too far over to be on a bracket that mounts next to the heater/ac controls. It extends over in front of those controls. I believe the one on eBay is identical whether a reproduction or original.

So this is Roberts car???
http://specialservicemustang.net/for...5&d=1319991230

I can tell it is the same car in the listing because of the spotlight, the primer (shown on one of the whip clip listings), the bracket on the trans tunnel, and the auto shifter.
Or is Robert just visiting the owner to take mock up photos in the car:headscratch:

Hmmm...unless he's changed it recently, I don't believe it's him. I think this seller is from Southern California.

The bracket on the eBay whip clip won't work on a Mustang, not long enough to reach the mounting position in the upper door jamb. It's identical to the one that came on mine and was replaced with a hand fabbed one that would work. I do like that State of CA fleet credit card it's sitting on though....

.... I need one to complete my CHP-33 book (carried in the pocket inside the cover). :)

Hmmm...I could have sworn that was his EBay account - but I could be wrong.

NoDrama43 12-02-2011 08:05 AM

that is robert read.

MOstang 12-02-2011 09:21 AM

I'm pretty sure this seller has posted up CHP shotgun racks before.

ImEvil1 12-02-2011 11:06 AM

Look at the difference in the back of the ebay rack from this in-service pic (magazine pic, left side photo of the two). If you zoom in, you can see what I'm talking about.

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...usmustang3.htm

Same design is shown here:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net/CHPatrolman2.htm

Those are the only two (good) shots that I know of, and they appear to be the same rack to me.

The rack I got from Robert awhile back isn't correct, just like the bracket for the whip. Nothing that a little modification won't correct, though. He does a nice job of restoring them, including the wiring.

IIRC, that's the same seller who listed a SSP shotgun rack last year which went for the rediculous amount of $565.00!!! The only reason I remember the price is because I bid a super high amount knowing that I wasn't going to be able to watch the close of the auction, and I figured that there was no way I was going to be outbide at $555.00. Little did I know...

I will, without a doubt, have some reproduction whip clips available this winter to members here for the cost of shipping. I don't have material for the brackets, but you can fab those up yourself. I recently lost my drill press (long story), but once I get a new one I will be able to drill a straight hole through the same type of phenolic material that the CHP used. And I used a real whip clip loaned to me by ImEvil1 to recreate the proper shape/dimensions.

Exactly...you can tell because the writing style and listing content almost same verbatim and also same gun (that's not for sale) used in this listing as was used in the same listing photo from before.

Wolfe1013 12-02-2011 08:39 PM

Robert is a good resource for CHP parts. They may need some minor modifications, but at least he is able to make them available to us.

Mike - I was referring to the mic clip bracket. That explains why my car doesn't have the holes in the dash. What is different about the back side of it? I haven't had a chance to look at it on my laptop yet. The mic clips are spread out a little far on this one but I could modify it to my tastes.

Mustang Kid 12-02-2011 09:48 PM

That is NOT Robert selling the rack. He lives in Sacramento, not Bakersfield where that 82 CHP Mustang is (I thought some of you would have figured out that the seller is a member here, that is the supposed movie car). Roberts ebay name is totally different than this guys name, + RR has nothing for sale on ebay right now.
Might not be for an 82, maybe more for an 85, because in the one inservice shot of an 82 interior on the inservice photo page, the mic clip bracket is more towards the top of the dash.

If so I wonder why they haven't offered it for sale here?

NoDrama43 12-03-2011 08:32 PM

cause we won't pay 500+ for it?

Bill would! ;) lol

NoDrama43 12-04-2011 08:19 AM

seriously.....why would anyone even consider paying 229.00 for this?

it's a 50.00 rack. Made with 5.00 worth of scrap steel and an 12 volt 30.00 gun mount. So if shipping is 15.00 it's worth 50.00. If you are picking it up it's worth 35.00.

nothing here is rare, or difficult to aquire.

call me crazy.... but I will build my own and use the spare cash on something else.

Not this time around Sam. I will modify the one I bought from Robert Read instead.

MOstang 12-06-2011 09:00 PM

I believe it was relisted at a lower price....$100 now with 1 day left.

Wolfe1013 12-06-2011 09:31 PM

Dang, are y'all trying for it? I was thinking about bidding with the lower price and maybe modifying that mic bracket to be more accurate. Someone's bidding now, so I'll respect that.

If any of you have one that you don't need, remember me and my '82 CHP. :)

ImEvil1 12-06-2011 09:57 PM

I have an extra...un-restored and needs modified.

Wolfe1013 12-06-2011 10:13 PM

Send me a pm, Mike. Got pics? If it will work on my '82, I'm interested.
