Shell Jump Start sticker?

ok well
I am big on keeping it original
accurate and as it was delivered.
this decal appears to have been on this Fan Shroud
since day one. I already know that this car has ALL
THE ORIGINAL front sheet metal and urethane
anyone else have this Decal on their ssp?
Nothing Funny here......just move along...keep it moving....

Andy, your picture wasn't displaying, so I changed it to a clickable link.

Va 5.0 08-07-2011 07:18 PM

Andy,
My 87 CHP has a Shell sticker on the drivers side of the fan shroud. I found that along with the Ford Authorized Modification sticker (on the passengers side top)both were covered with black paint. I will post pics once my camera battery charges.

I have one on my 86 CHP covered with black paint. Doug

Anyone else?
before i made this initial post I looked around the internet
to see if i could find this sticker on another or similar year Mustang
and i could not.
For some reason i Don't think that Ford put this on unless it was
some agreement with SHELL to put this sticker on SSP cars or
CHP had some agreement with SHELL to put this sticker on the
CHP cars.....So far it seems like a CHP only thing.
Someone Knows!
thanks you guys for looking at your cars and posting
and maybe someone out there will know (and tell) the Shell sticker story.

If your mid 80's CHP/SSP car does not currently have
a SHELL jump start instructions sticker
did some cars have them........I think so
now...all we need is a little detective work

28HopUp 08-12-2011 08:31 PM

Andy, I will check my 85 when I see it tomorrow :)

28HopUp 08-13-2011 05:29 PM

We just got back from our week-long vacation in Ocean City, NJ. I went out to the CHP, and can confirm that my SSP has the exact same sticker as Andy's car (although his sticker is in nicer condition). Here's a picture from when I bought the car -

http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...9c2924c0ca.jpg

I bet that sticker could be replicated...

Andy 08-14-2011 12:03 AM

Thanks Bill for looking and posting
now we have to find out what the relationship
(connection) was with CHP and SHELL
because so far this looks like a CHP...only thing.
and a mid 80's only thing.
If you were to write them a letter
Asking about it
i bet it would get
bumped to the PR department and a form letter
sent thanking you for your interest in Shell products.
Yadie Yadie Yadie
Not Good.....What we want to know is Why.....Why
this sticker is on these CHP cars. was it the make ready
department at the dealer or CHP that put them on.
can you research it Bill.....Please you have a much
better way of communication in these matters.

I bet someone in Motor Transport could answer that question for you Andy. Maybe Robert Read?

I was thinking along the same lines myself. Meanwhile, I've been considering whom I could use to replicate the artwork so I could have new stickers made. I already have the printer in mind that I would use, but I'd like to know why these CHP cars had the stickers before going to that effort.

GSPI 08-14-2011 09:47 AM

You might want to check to see who was the Motor Transport maintenance oil and gas supplier of that era in Sacramento. Oil suppliers sometimes have had travelers helpful hint stickers that were used in cars when their cars were serviced at Shell supplied maintenance shops. I again have to wonder if Shell was the bid winner for products and it was a service station add on sticker that was supplied back then.

Wolfe1013 08-24-2011 12:56 AM

Also, when did these start getting applied? My '82 CHP was missing the entire shroud. I ordered one last month and need to know what stickers if any were applied to it. I'll put it on when I get the power steering pump situation ironed out.

Andy 08-24-2011 06:50 PM

OK here is what WE have so far all
have been CHP/SSP cars
two 85's an 86 and an 87
may be earlier cars? later cars?
may be Other SSP cars??
i agree with Jim that Robert R would know
Bill Jr.
I think with as much SHELL Gas.... that i/we buy
that Shell SHOULD re make our stickers for us.
again...I am not diplomatic in these matters. If i were
i would have my assignment card by now. Someone ...Bill...
can research it and find out the when why where of this
yeller jumper sticker mystery.

I hear ya, Andy! I plan to talk with Robert again within the week, and will ask him about the stickers.

I need to look and see if that Shell sticker is on my 82.

edit: I just went and looked. I don't have one and it does not appear as though there has ever been one applied.

mac88chp 08-31-2011 02:38 PM

Must not have been a long lived thing, no evidence of one on any '88s or '89s I've seen.

Rhino 08-31-2011 03:15 PM

My bro-in-law is a digital retoucher and is well known for his ability to restore/refurbish photos for large ad campaigns. I could probably pull a favor to have the sticker recreated as a digital file that could be printed. Just need some good quality/high res photos to work with. LMK if you guys would like me to inquire.

The $1,700 1986 CHP that sold out of Portland recently had a Shell Oil jump start sticker on the fan shroud.

I found a link to the shell answer books
http://www.scribd.com/collections/34...l-Answer-Books

Book #2 Looks like the CHP is featured in it.
Book #12 shows a small picture of the sticker.

It looks like the jump start decals were free from shell dealers or you could get one in the mail.

28HopUp 11-08-2013 11:29 AM

Jack, you always find a way of turning up some cool stuff!
