16" wheels on SSP car?
So in my quest for more history on my 1993 SSP car I contacted Ford and had them send me what they call a build sheet but it is basically just a listing of how the car was optioned during the build. I am confused b/c one of the specific options listed was "225/55ZR x 16" BSW All Season Tires". Could you order an SSP car with 16" pony sheels? I have never seen one. This car was one of the 30 cars that didn't go to Highway Patrol use in 1993.

I would say unless there is something specific referencing the Special Service option on that build sheet, it's probably a generic 5.0 liter LX build sheet and not specific to your car.......

Those Ford 999s are notoriously inaccurate.
|
Weren't there some Nevada HP SSP's that ran 16" Pony wheels? They may have been retro-fitted by NHP though.

Thanks for the info, that is kinda what I thought.
One other thing I found interesting is that the sheet from Ford references the base AM/FM radio (which is what is in the car) and yet my door tag radio code is "7" which is AM/FM Cassette. I would bet the door tag is more accurate and the radio has been replaced at some point but who would go to the trouble to put that piece in there. |
Truly....the sheets from Ford aren't worth the time/trouble it takes to get them.
What year is your car? |
How long did it take to get yours and was it sent US Mail or E-mail to you? I placed a request over the Xmas holiday and they replied asking for my home address. Provided that information and was last I heard. After several weeks began sending emails every few days to inquire if they needed anything else and never received any reply. Finally gave up on it since the info wasn't particularly accurate on the SSPs anyway.
|
I've gotten those 999 history reports on 7 out of 10 of the Fox chassis Mustangs that I have owned and only one of them was inaccurate. I just ordered one last week for my soon to be delivered 89 SSP and I'll post it's accuracy after I receive it.

Yes, the only inaccurate one was for a 86 GT convert. The ones for my 86 UHP SSP and 86 CSP SSP were correct.

Bob - Did you use an email to order or place a phone call? For whichever one you used can you post the address / #? Thank you.
|
Mike, the phone number is 1-800-392-3673. Follow the prompts and when you finally get a human, ask for a 999 History report and give them the VIN and your address/phone info. They will have a researcher call you back within 48 hours to confirm that they will be mailing you the info.

Thanks for posting up Bob.

The Nevada Highway Patrol was approached by a tire company and told they could have free tires for their cars. At the time NHP was running 15 inch wheels. They (NHP) put 16 inch wheels and tires on the cars and they had numerous later mustangs run with the 16’s. My car has 16’s on it but I like many others here do not think these cars came from the factory with 16’s. It changed the entire appearance of my car for the better. IMO

Glad I could be of help.

Ford called back. Unfortunately they called the house and I was not home, even though they had my cell number. I should be receiving my build sheet in a few days!

Here's the "Build Sheet" I received today. Like I said before, not quite what I expected. I was expecting something more 'form' like.

I learned nothing from it that I didn't already know. I HAD the phone number to call if I needed any other info, but my WIFE erased it off the answering machine. I would have called and asked what this piece of paper I received was?
|
Just phoned in an order of building sheets for the 92 MSP and 93 MSHP SSPs. Like you I'm sure the results will be underwhelming, but it doesn't cost anything so what the heck! Per the rep on the phone 7-10 days before they arrive in the mail. Thanks again for posting the phone number, Bob. For anyone contemplating the phone number vs. the email address don't bother with the email.

Interesting topic on the research information. I ran that VIN through my Ford fleet access site and came up with similar results as found on the top of what the researchers found:
World Manufacturer Identifier - 1st, 2nd, 3rd Positions VIN Code: 1FA Assembly Country: UNITED STATES Make: Ford Body Style: Sedan Restraint System Type (Passenger Cars) or Brake Type and GVWR Class (Trucks and Vans) - 4th Position VIN Code: C Brake System: STANDARD GVWR Class: Line,Series Body Type - 5th, 6th, 7th Positions VIN Code: P40 Vehicle Line: Mustang Series: LX Vehicle Type: Passenger Car Engine Type - 8th Position VIN Code: E Engine: 5.0 L Cylinders: 8 Fuel: Gasoline Model Year - 10th Position VIN Code: P Model Year: 1993 Assembly Plant - 11th Position VIN Code: F Assembly Plant: DEARBORN, MICHIGAN Production Sequence Number - 12th - 17th VIN Code: 111908 Prod Sequence Number 111908 Additional Information Wheel Axles Wheelbase 201.0 (which seems wrong to me as a wheelbase but not overall length) Usually I've found that there is information out there on the sequences but it seems that the full build information is not released when you ask Ford for their research group to look at them. |
I wasted some time on a 999 report also. I did not have any luck as the paperwork they sent me was generic and NOT correct for my car.
The best way to confirm the info is either a build sheet, or window sticker, or emminger invoice for the 4 eyed cars. buck tags, door tag with DSO, and agency records are good also. |
I was curious is the "999 report" supposed to be the same as the "build sheet" report from Ford. I've observed the "999 report" name in the past but the Ford rep I spoke with acted like I was speaking a foregin language when used that reference. She did understand "build sheet" request, though. Just something to keep in mind should someone place a call to the number listed above.

They are one and the same.

I was referring to the build sheet that some of us ALWAYS find in our cars, under the seats, behind the panels, under the carpet etc.
|
Jim,
Mike knew what you were referring to. Some people are calling the Ford 999s "build" sheets. Someone ought to file a lawsuit against them for wasting paper. SOME people find real build sheets all the time; must be karma. :) |
Mine came in the mail today for the MSHP & MSP. Nothing earth shattering but hard to complain when they are free.
|
I'm still waiting on mine!

I received mine today. The only info that I did not already know was that it was built on 2/22/89 and has an "Immersion Engine Heater".
