started on the 87
Well, I started working on the 87 ssp last weekend.
All I was going to do was put new injectors on the motor but the insane amount of grease and grime just got to me. I pulled the motor out for a refresh and ended up going a little overboard...... http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/DSC02390.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/DSC02392.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/DSC02398.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/DSC02396.jpg I guess too many energy drinks will do this to a guy! |
Looks good is that the original color?
|
yup, code 7H light regatta blue. I decided to go base/clear and make the engind compartment shiny instead of the original flat look.
|
Dang!! I wish I had the time, materials and talent to do stuff like that.

Been there, done that. Went to change a battery cable one morning and before I know it I was doing a head swap... Too many Red Bulls will do that to you....:)

Looks great!

What agency did this car come from?
|
Thanks so much! The blue came out brighter than I thought it would, but now I cant wait to paint the rest of the car. seeing the other regatta blues keeps me encouraged to finish this. I started detailing some stuff and I am putting it back on now.
I love painting. used to do it for a living 25 years ago. now it is just a hobby. (and hard on the ol body):) 86nessp, I am still trying to piece together clues about where my car served, all I know is it served in a local agency here in AZ. All documentation has been purged at the MVD and carfax said it transferred to a new owner in 2003. The only clue is a G.R.E.A.T. key fob I found under the seat. I am praying for a build sheet when I pull the interior apart. I will post some more pics as the progress continues. |

Love that car Hector! I can't wait until mine is that nice. Thanks for the octane boost!
Started to detail and assemble a few things today. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/DSC02414.jpg |
Not sure why the picture didn't come through:headscratch:
Let's try it again... http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/DSC02414.jpg |
Well I started the engine rebuild. I kept the bore stock, it only needed a good hone and cleaning and valve job. I painted the block and heads the correct light grey and painted the intakes and valve covers the correct color.
here are a few pics. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0032.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0031.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...IMAG0094-1.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0093.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0092.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...IMAG0091-1.jpg I will be installing it shortly. more pics to follow.... |

It Runs!!
For the first time since I have had this ssp, it moved under its own power last week. Took it down for some new mufflers a few days ago. Now I am starting the body and paint. the hood and fenders will be in color next week and the bumper cover the following week. I am looking forward to driving it by the end of summer. Here are a bunch of pics of the progress.
the before shot http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/DSC02339.jpg engine out, starting on the compartment repaint http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/DSC02393.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/DSC02390.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/DSC02392.jpg fresh coat of paint http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/DSC02396.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/DSC02398.jpg engine ready to go in http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0092.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0091.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...IMAG0094-1.jpg sitting in the engine bay http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...IMAG0107-1.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...IMAG0106-1.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0391.jpg the trans cooler to me about 20 hours to get all the rocks out and straighten the fins. found some original style hose clamps and mounting clamps http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/IMAG0394.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/IMAG0392.jpg doing some body work http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0388.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0389.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0390.jpg some of the exhaust work. my over the axle pipes had rust holes everywhere so to keep the stock tips I had to buy the complete muffler back pipes and just cut the original tips off and welded them to the new pipe. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0383.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0382.jpg Runs and sounds really nice. I put dynomax superturbos on it and it sounds very close to the original sound Once I get the front end complete I will post up some more. |
Sharp color....what agency was it from?
|
Beautiful color! And nice work.
|
Looking good...and that is a great color!

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0441.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...p/IMAG0442.jpg Well, i guess paint shop has thier own idea of what Regatta blue actually is. I painted the front half of the car two weeks ago and the color was not even close. So i had to sand it all off and start over. Had to custom match the color from the engine compartment! These are alot closer. I will cut and buff them and put them on next week. |
