What tires are you running?

I'm looking for a new set of tires for my SSP. Not too many choices out there for 15 inch wheels. I went in this morning to Discount Tire as they sent me an email with a $100 coupon. I wanted BF Goodrich g-Force Sport, 225/60-R15, 5 of them. They didn't have any in stock, nor any in the metro Detroit area, NOR any at their warehouse in Ohio! On back order. May take 2-3 weeks or three months is what the salesman told me.

What are you guys running on your 15 inch wheels?

The same tire you are looking to purchase. I love them!!

I found 6, but one is a winter tire. The remaining 5: Falken, Kumho, Yokohama, Michelin and the BF Goodrich g-Force Sport.

Any thoughts?

85-90 cars have Goodyear Gator back 225/60/ vr15

91-93 cars have Goodyear Eagle GT+4 215/65/vr15

If you can find Goodyear Eagle HR in either size they are nice tires also.

The BFGs are nice tires, I'm running a z-rated version of them that's no longer available in 15s. Try the TireRack online, they can ship to you or a local installer, that's what I did originally for mine.

I used a Fuzion tire at one time on my Mustang SSP. I also loved the Kelly Charger. That tire resembles the Gatorback a little bit in my opinion. It hugged the road real well and lasted a long time. (225/60/15).
Hope this helps.

This is real helpful...thanks for posting. I want to pick up some new ones for my 93 before Indy.

Thanks for the info guy. I haven't seen any Fuzion or Kelly Charger brand tires, yet.

As you said not many options available...I just had a version of BFG's added to my 1989 MSP SSP. Like them quite a bit.

+1 I just put a set of BFG's on mine and kept my Eagle GT's for shows. I actually like the way the BFG's handle better than the Goodyears.

The back of the my USPS SSP wears Centennial tires .
They read INTERCEPTOR in big block letters, they look tough on the car.
I don't know if they are cheap tires or not but they sure look good on there!

I ended up getting a set of Continental Extreme Contact, 225/60R15. I've got my tire pressure set at 30 PSI. My door sticker does not show air pressure for 225/60R15. Only 205/65R15 at 35 PSI. the 225/55R16 need 30 PSI. What PSI do I run?

ssp91ssp 06-18-2010 10:31 PM

Toshi,
Not sure what the fac spec is but i run my 225/60's at 35psi.

FlyinTiger 06-19-2010 10:53 AM

I have always run 32 psi in all of my cars. Just something my dad did, so I do.
