18 Police Mustangs in IN!
Check it out here:
http://www.themustangnews.com/fomoco...indiana116.htm I was just driving through Indiana the other day when I picked up my SSP... good thing I didn't see one! If I had, I'm almost certain the officer wouldn't have known how to respond to one question. That question being, "would you mind if I take a picture of this?" It would have been good to see an original SSP with a 2008 Mustang GT police car together in the same picture... old and new! I'll have pictures up from my car at Indy in Indiana soon! |
Very nice....I wish Ford would have put out another Special Service Mustang after CHP tested the new '05-up body style.
Did you get to take your car out at Indy?? |
Unfortunatly, I didn't get to drive it on the track. They let me roam everywhere except the pit area and the track. I'm working on getting pictures from my whole trip up, so I will be sure to make a post when I do! It's taking me a while because I'm debating on making a mini website for it or just using a photobucket or something like that...

The Indiana Mustangs aren't package cars.....just regular GTs with emergency equipment added. |
And radio ? and rear flashers ?

speaking of mustang police cars......
I am putting a quote together for my agency to purchase three "specialty" vehicles for our traffic unit. I convinced them to look at Mustang GT's and Dodge Chargers. Being the supervisor in charge of the unit I get one of the cars myself. The Hemi is a beast...however if I can convince them to stay with a Ford Product I will enjoy driving my 08 Mustang GT at work..... ;) |
Jim, see if you can get them to go for 3 Highland green "Bullets".;)
|
Oh really? Then how come they tested Volvo S70's back in 99? They arent police package volvos...? :headscratch:

If you are the supervisor, then you know what you need to do. ;) |

To begin with they were T5's but without most of the luxury features found in those models(leather, trip computers, etc.) I had three of them after they were retired from CHP and getting them serviced or ordering parts was always an adventure. From various mechanical parts to such simple things as door panels, these cars were anything but a stock T5. Volvo took parts from one model as well as some parts the Volvo dealer had no idea even existed and created a unique package. One example is some of the skid protectors, or whatever they called them that were plastic on normal cars but these were made of steel, something the Volvo techs. had never seen before. I'd probably have kept one but it seemed like every time I drove one a different warning light would come on or something would break. This followed CHP's experience with the cars, the records for these cars were 2-3 times as thick as a normal patrol vehicle |
No wonder CHP phased them out QUICKLY!
