1985 CHP #E408336
FYI MEMBERS. CHP 8336 is undergoing a 100% CHP in service restoration as of last sat.Robert Read is helping me with the correct restoration to bring back to the cars history the 2 years the car spent as a CHP car in ca at the Napa office.I am very happy to be introduced to Robert from Bill jr in Delaware.Robert said he will take picks as the restoration gets started.Pics will follow.
THANKS SSMUSTANG.NET RICH |
Rich,
I think it's great that you were able to connect with Mr. Read on the CHP equipment and installation. That will be a great fun car once it is done. And the fact that you have so much CHP documentation and personal history with that car makes the restoration even more special. Looking forward to seeing pics... Congrats my Amigo! Bill |
Fun news...thanks for sharing.
|
That is awesome news Rich; be sure to keep us in the loop with lots of pics....You know we all love pictures of progress. :2thumbs:
|
I bought a ton of stuff from Rob as well - got it all ready now just need the car! lol!
|
Robert Read was happy to see the car show up at his house in the condition it is in.He said it is rare that a 85 is in this shape. After looking at his black and white camaro we decided to go 100% in service car(except the running gear), colors included.I was going to keep it all black but for me it makes more sence to paint it correct CHP colors because the car will only go to Ford and Police shows on a trailer.I also am a former member of the Nor Cal Shelby American club. The car has a big history since I have owned it since 9-1-1987.Robert is going to put the pics on a cd so we can all view.I am working on my end with body shops on getting the car painted.I hope to have the car painted in about a month or so.It should not take them very long in the body shop because there is no body work to be done just paint.

Here are the second set of pics of all the correct CHP equipment being installed in my car. It looks awsome!!! I am very happy with the way the car looks. All of the equipment will be installed by this weekend then I will be going to get estimates on the paint work to be done. Does any one in Northern Ca know of a good body shop than can paint my car??? I hope to finish my car by July so I can enter some Police/EV shows.

Here are the 3rd set of pics of my car. The paint will be next.

Your CHP is coming along nicely. :2thumbs:
If you need to use a taller hood to clear the 351, I suggest going with a 2" cowl hood. That would be a subtle change. And since you will soon be taking the car to paint, now is the perfect time to do that. Thanks for posting more pics! EDIT: And your E plates were Priority mailed to you yesterday ;) |
The car is looking good. I like the CHP issued tach, lol.

Alright Bill,I will post a video before paint. Now I need to find a nice place to take the video on priv property so I dont go to jail lol lol. ........... Video to post soon. FYI,I wrote a letter to the CHP commisioner to allow me to use the orig VITACHROME ca seals.

Update, I am still in the process of getting estimates for a complete paint job. I want to do a correct CHP paint job.The bodyside plastic molding and the matching moulding strip on the front and rear bumper covers are to be grey in color. Wow, that is almost impossable to find the correct color on the net and off any color charts. It just dawned on me that maybe there is a chance that the moulding color might be on the back side if I take one off and look. Low and behold it is the grey color I need to repaint my mouldings to!!! So I went to the automotive paint store and the mixed the correct grey color to the inner side of my moulding. I was happy until I went to pick up the special color grey at the tune of $75.00 for one pint of Chroma One paint. Oh well why worry about money at this point LOL LOL.........I am in the process of trying to find out the correct color for the bottom of the windshield trim and the windshield cowl plastic piece that the wipers go through, As well as the trim around the side windows. I think It may be trim black but Iam not sure. Any help in finding the correct color in these areas will be greatly appriciated. Rich

For the black trim pieces, I told my body guy to paint them "matte black". I'm not sure of the exact paint code for that. :D Guess my application to the UASSP will never get approved now!

UPDATE: 9-1-2009
Update, CHP #8336 Is now in paint jail!!!
It is ironic that I bought this car on this day 22 years ago. 9-1-1987. I stripped the car down and delivered it to the shop today. It is supposed to be done in just 2 weeks. Due to our economy being shot in Ca, the shop was able to give me a really fair price to do a complete paint job with a fast turnaround time. I am still pushing to make the Ripon Ca show. The car is getting painted in service colors. I have asked the shop owner if he will take pics throughout the paint process. pics to follow soon.......... Rich |
That's great Rich. Please keep us posted and include any pics.

I just wanted to post a update on my car. I have been working steady on the car since the last posting. I still have to install all of the emblems and bodyside moldings. Ken (5300SMPV) and myself are working on installing a set of 2007 Crown Victoria P-71 wheels on my car. The test fit with the 235/55/17 tires proves that they need a 3/4'' min to 1'' max wheel spacer allowing the tires to turn without rubbing. Please view my FOTKI site to view all the latest pictures on CHP #8336. Thanks...............Rich

#8336 is looking great! On that rear-end shot, I think the rollbar looks like it was there all along (althoug I know better than that). Question though - What is the stablemate to #8336? I can't tell from the picture.
Thanks for the update! I wanna see the final fitment pics of the P71 5-lug wheels on your car. |
