Mustang Kid 07-14-2011 04:14 PM

New kid from Oregon.

Hello, I am 15, I do not currently have any SSP's(I have an 84 GT convertible), but my dad has 6 SSP California Highway Patrol Mustangs along with a large collection of various other CHP cars. I would like to get an 84 CHP Mustang someday as they are my favorite year mustang. Hope to learn a lot from this site and share stories of my dads cars.

ImEvil1 07-14-2011 04:16 PM

Welcome to the forum. What years are your Dad's CHP Mustangs? I'm partial to the 4-eyed cars, but I do like them all. :)

Mustang Kid 07-14-2011 04:31 PM

His Mustangs include(all need to be restored, but are fairly nice) :
1982 CHP #300
2 85 CHPs- one bought off ebay for 1500, had an underhood fire that melted the wireing harness and the other was saved from a kid(#8337), my dad traded a clean 96 Crown Victoria that the kid totaled a month after he got it, if my dad didnt get the mustang, the mustang would have gotten totaled.
89 CHP EVOC car
soon to get 91 CHP car that is still original with the cheap paintjob the CHP put on it before sale
And a 92 wrecked CHP car that was rear ended while helping a stranded family on July 4th of 93 or 94, it still survives almost 20 years later without being parted out, my dads plan is to preserve the car like it sits.
I'll post pics of the cars when I am not on dial-up internet.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the group. It's been a number of years since we've seen your Dad at the Ripon show. It would be great if you got him and yourself down here (and bring a car or two). :)

Unmrkd 07-15-2011 01:23 PM

Welcome! It's nice to have some younger people get involved and enjoy the hobby. Lots of good people and an abundance of information can be found here.

He's been real busy with his full time sheriffs job and his restoration buisness so he hasn't gone in a while along with having no time to work on his cars. He wants to restore his 95 CHP Caprice (#902080, lets see who can guess the significance of that # :) ), hopefully by next year it will be restored and we can take it down there. I may have my 96 Nevada HP Crown Vic restored and maybe take it down :) ( if you can bring cars like that; I havent really looked into the show that much)

GSPI 07-15-2011 10:21 PM

Ooo... I might know your dad too from a long time ago. His first name Chris?

Mustang Kid 07-15-2011 10:47 PM

Yes, his name is Chris. May I ask how you know him, what kind of cars you have, your location. It would be easier for him to remember who you are with that info since its been along time.

GSPI 07-15-2011 11:09 PM

Originally, I was calling him back in 2000-2001 to try and find a 1978 LTD up in that neck of the woods to do a restoration of a Cleveland Ohio Police car. He probably doesn't remember me directly but he probably remembers a few of the crew over at Copcar.com though. I still have his number though at his shop. He found a car for Dave Arnold of CCdC and got that restoration started for Dave.

This vid should help acquaint you with what typically comes to the show:

Some good, some bad, some ugly. Some of the comments posted below that vid are funny as hell.

Cant wait till I restore my NHP P71 now! I spent all day today looking through the hundreds of photos of CHP cars at Motor Transport that my dad and his friend Ron took back in the late 90s and early 00s. I found 40 or more photos of 91-93 SSP CHP Mustangs (in service, wrecks, sales lot cars, stripped cars, etc.), would you guys be interested in having them on the site? I could post them all in a thread.

MOstang 07-17-2011 12:54 AM

:2thumbs: Those will be awesome to see. :southpark:

Hi Sam! I'm glad to see that you made it over here from FEP. From the sound of things, it looks as though your parents have raised you right in terms of being interested in Mustangs! :) Our son is 15yo, and Jack and I have been working on a Mustang project for about a year.

Thanks for joining, and post up some pics of your 84 here if you can.

Thanks, my parents have raised me right in terms of being interested in cars, even though my dad has his mustangs, I wasnt that into them until I got my 84 convertible. Now I know more about the normal mustangs than my dad (he knows a lot more about SSPs though) and whenever I see a POC fox I wish I had the money to buy it, fix it up, and sell it, lol. Mustangs are great projects, I'd like to see yours and your sons project on FEP, unless you already have a thread about it :)

Some pics of my dads cars
'85 #8337

The other 85, still has it original front bumper

http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...s/IMG_0509.jpg

His EVOC car #5281 in action and when he got it. Today it is still all original, has had 4-5 engine replacements while it was inservice, CHP repainted it once, and it looks like it did in the photo of when my dad got it.

And my 84 GT Convertible before and during the restoration I am currently giving it. I'm going to paint it either Viper GTS blue with pearl white hood stripes, or '71 Trans Am Lucerne blue with pearl white stripes, either way it will be the only one like it in Oregon i'm figuring.

Here's the thread about our father/son project:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=2892

Our main parameter in selecting a car was that it had to have front airbags. We also wanted a 5-speed and I preferred a V6 to keep him outa trouble. It's been fun working on it together. :)

GSPI 07-17-2011 10:04 PM

Very cool!! By the way, I seem to recognize those yard shots from N. Cali no?

The pics of '85 8337 and my 84 are at my dads yard here in Grants Pass, the other 85 is in a yard in Redbluff, CA.

GSPI 07-17-2011 11:13 PM

Yes, this is the yard that I remember from N. California:

RJ has many Diplomats and other CHP sedans over there.

My dad is friends with Bob Cox, so he let's my dad store stuff at his lot. My dad doesn't know any RJs down there, is he one of Bobs friends?

Can anyone guess why this car is very special:)

GSPI 07-18-2011 12:53 AM

RJ is short for Robert J Cox. I know that's Bob's storage area and that's where I know the image from. Bob is selling many of those cars actually so I've actually gotten photos of that yard.

88stang 07-18-2011 02:58 AM

Any pics of the cars interiors? Maybe some of the 2 '85 CHP's? #8337 and the other one. Thanks. And welcome to the forum! :)

Ok, my dad may be trading a reno pd gran fury for some CHP cars from him, I'm not sure on the specifics of the deal though.

I took a bunch of photos the other day of 8337 that I'll post in a new thread about the car later, those are the only 2 pics of the other 85 that my dad took. He's thinking about having it shipped up here to GP when his 06 CHP Crown gets picked up.

chp1982 07-18-2011 04:49 PM

Pics of the '82 also please!

I'll try and get some posted. It has been completely covered by blackberry bushes for over 5 years an I have been hacking them all back recently, they actually act as a natural car cover that has protected the interior.

Mustang Kid 07-18-2011 07:58 PM

I couldnt find any no blurry ones on my computer and I'd have to dig through my dads photos to find some of when he got it. The cars is still pretty original other than paint and a sunroof.

Rhino 07-19-2011 06:24 PM

Cool stuff. Seems like 85 was a good year for CHP SSP survivors.

sspanthony 07-19-2011 10:35 PM

Very Cool!!!!

Agreed, which is surprising since there were fewer 85's bought by the CHP than most other years.

Hey I just joined here to, and I am from southern Oregon as well. I know a guy that used to own your convertible, and I also know the guy that he sold it to, that's who you must have picked it up from. I have tons of fox body Mustang parts, I have owned over 70 fox body mustangs and 12 of the 94-98 cars. let me know if there is anything that your looking for.

Awesome!! My dad got the car from a guy with the name of Carson(he has an 84GT350 btw). I had found some old paperwork that had a price of $900 IIRC. My 84 is rough (you might have already seen it in person before?). It needs all the 84 GT stuff(and a lot more lol) as I am restoring it back to factory condition. You can see all that I've done to it here- http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthread.php?t=116828
I will send you a PM with my email (best way to communicate). I have come to a dead end on the history of my 84 until now hopefully. Anything is helpfull:)
