Ding, ding, ding. They look like Escort caps (too shiny) I don't know how he made it work. Unless it's a 4 eye with an aero front... who knows.:dunno: Another pic.

Ok, I spoke to the owner of the car. That is Unit 1357, he told me he had seen my car on this sight and .org and he took notes to restore his. He lives in Broward Co. He also knows and has talk to several trooper prior to his restoration.

Seems like all the Troopers knew about my Old Unit FHP0293. This is the first time I have seen pics of this car and the first time I have learned of the car. The owner will be joining the Forum and posting.

Here is another picture.

FHP813 12-07-2008 10:06 PM

That was fast! Did you ask him about the wheels?

jarhed123 12-07-2008 10:08 PM

We are going to have to square him away a bit without making him feel bad. Looks like a nice paint job but little minor things need to be worked on.

Wheels, "State Trooper" on trunk, 5.0 Interseptor Badge, and Door decals facing the wrong way.

The car is a 90's car but we did not speak about equipment or anything else because I had not seen the car. We have each others numbers and I will be in touch with him.

ImEvil1 12-07-2008 10:08 PM

Was that originally a South FL car when it was in-service?

ImEvil1 12-07-2008 10:09 PM

Another simultaneous post.

We can help him out.:2thumbs:

jarhed123 12-07-2008 10:19 PM

His name is John C. A person had swaped the front brakes from a 4 banger and the struts. He is aware of the problems and will be fixing them. Seems like a nice guy. We are on the phone now and he will be sighning in soon.

Whats up guys, its a small world and I've met a lot of nice people recently since I painted my car black & tan, Ive owned 1357 since 1998 I bought her at a state auction in Orlando for 4700.00, it was at Troop E, and driven by Tpr A.Chin who now works for Miami Beach, I have spoken to him but he has not seen the car yet, I know about the passenger door decal facing the wrong way, and the trunk sticker, I have another decal for that door that faces the right way and Im getting more, Im ready to answer your questions.

jarhed123 12-07-2008 11:43 PM

Welcome to the Forum.

ImEvil1 12-07-2008 11:47 PM

Welcome to the site, John.

You answered my question, reference the rear trunk lettering. Your car could have had it, since it was Troop E.

If you haven't already checked it out, here is our FHP Restoration Guide.

FHP#1357 12-08-2008 12:02 AM

I know I have a couple things to fix, but, it Won "The Peoples Choice Award" at the show if that helps

FHP#1357 12-08-2008 12:06 AM

it was a troop E car

FHP#1357 12-08-2008 12:11 AM

I know my car didnt have it, I will be talking to former trooper Chin now a beach cop, Im going to pic his brain and try to get some photos off him if he has'em

ImEvil1 12-08-2008 12:15 AM

No worries, John.

Post up some better pics if you can, and you'll find lots of people here that are willing to help (depending on how far you want to take your car, how correct, etc).

I bought mine in '97 in Gainesville, but I think I was at the auction your car sold at in Orlando.

FHP#1357 12-08-2008 12:54 AM

I bought it 2/9/98, FHP bought it 4-1-93, it was retired in late 97' due to a "bad transmission" is what was on the windshield, it turned out to be a bad clutch cable!, I drove it home from orlando like that.

I have the maintenance card, warranty card, and the fleet service card, I kept a copy of the original title and some other trinket paperwork left in the car

FHP#1357 12-08-2008 01:12 AM

the pictures I have saved are too large to download here, the site rejects them, I'll take some new ones and change the format size in my camara

FHP#1357 12-08-2008 01:43 AM

Do these shorts make my ass look phat?

Yes, they are escort caps.

The wheels; When I bought the car it had the unpainted 10 holes, I always liked and wanted the steel wheels, soon after I bought the car I started hunting for them, I bought a Classic Mustang restoration magazine and started calling every one, I called this shop up in S.Carolina and "Bubba" had four NIB in his attic, he wanted $50+8 shipping each, "WHAT WOULD YOU DO!" I couldnt overnight the check any faster!, I later sprayed them wih clear.

one mod you cant see unless you look is that I have rear disk brakes from a 1993 Cobra, at the time my brother and I were buying and selling alot of mustangs, one had this HTF rear end so I swapped it out,

These wheels would not fit on the front because the brakes were much bigger in 93' as compared to 86's. I was/am still a mechanic before I was a cop and I work on alot of my friends and co-workers cars. One of the guys at work needed brakes on his 93' it had a supercharged stroker motor but it was originally a 4 banger, I talked him into swapping strut assemblys, problem solved,

My complete interior is black except for the original carpet, sorry, I do have a grey dash in storage and another 93 hatchback parts car with a nice grey interior

Very nice lookin' FHP John. I wouldn't think there are too many 2nd owners out there. I too didn't care for the shiney 10-holes on my car, and since it now has 87-up brakes I decided to paint my wheels. But I am a fan of the 85/86 wheels.

FHP#1357 12-08-2008 12:07 PM

I posted some new pictures at www.photobucket.com/johnsrides, There is a Mustangs Only magazine called Mustang Generations they did a feature on my car along with my 05'GT Unmarked, this is only thier forth issue but this issue is going to feature mustangs owned by cops, they even did a video shoot with each of my cars chasing an 05'GT, around a flat track, I got the 93 to do a little sideways drifting coming out of the corners, it will be posted on thier website when they are done editing, I'll post up a link when it come out it should be soon

Welcome to the site John. Where were you "hiding" that car? Marcos told me about the MMP car show that you were in, but I don't remember ever seeing it anywhere else. How did you get the escort caps to work? it doesn't look like you modified them. Anyway if there is anything we can do for you feel free to ask.

I wonder if the Fox 4 cylinder front hubs that he used are small enough for the Escort caps to clear them without modification.

FHP813 12-08-2008 04:13 PM

That's probably it.

John told me he put some 1/4 inch spacers between the caps the wheels. I told him Bernie FHP813 is the man to see for the caps.

By the way 28HopUp, I like how you painted your wheels. Looking nice!!

Originally if the calipers wern't so thick they would clear the wheel I started to modify the caliper and got close to making it work, then one of the guys at the PD needed brakes on his 93LX 4banger which he have converted to a
5.0L, I had to swap the struts as well as the spindles, I also have a 1/4 spacer behind the wheel to help clear the $7 "escort" center caps, In the rear I had no problem whats so ever with the drum brake rear or the Cobra disc brake rear I have

I took it to two of the Ft laud Mustangs/ Bass Pro shows, I got a 1st and a 2nd, it might have been 03', 04', I take it to the Tower Shops alot, it was all Black untill last month, but its always had the steelies, Its always been in my moms garage, as for the escort caps I didnt have to anything to the rears, the fronts I spaced the wheels out 1/4 inch, flatened the grease cap a little and used a little 1/4 spacers,

Thank you very much, Marcos! Being a man with limited means, I knew powdercoating them was out of the question for now. It took about $12 worth of primer/paint and several hours with the sandblaster to prep & paint all six wheels (I have a spare spare now!). The sandblaster was gentle enough to not score the tires, so they didn't need to be removed from the wheels prior to prep/paint. I used painters masking tape to cover the tires during the painting. Afterwards, I had the wheel weights placed on the inside of the rims for a clean outer appearance.

Here's a larger view of my sig photo with the freshly painted wheels (although I hadn't cleaned the tires while waiting for the paint to cure).
