Questions from a newbie
Is it hard to find a SSP Mustang ? marked/non marked ?
Is it credible to built a SSP from a conventional Mustang ? What budget for the purchase ? for the resto ? Can we find easily the accessories ? Thanking you |

The restoration is only dictated by how complete and attention to detail you are with every piece of the restoration. You could find one already restored but you will pay a premium for it. There are many cars out there that are cloans of SSP's now but only a true SSP will bring any $$$ in the future and also you would be able to say this is a TRUE SSP that has seen service on the streets of ???????... Since you're going to have to import a mustang into France and pay major shipping fees. I would definitely buy a real SSP instead of a regular coupe. Buying a restored one will cost you more money up-front. But it may be cheaper in the long run. There are plenty of fox body parts around, but the shipping cost of nit-picky parts to France, could make it unfeasible. If you have bought parts from the US, you know what to expect.
Also there are a few restored SSP's around. But not all of them are 100% correct. Most of the time it's lack of information and sometimes just not caring. It really depends on your preference. The '85 CHP Matt has for sale is not completely restored, but the police equipment is included. That is another thing that is a pain to find. You will have to put some time into it but it's good for the money. http://www.specialservicemustang.net...read.php?t=901 |

thanks. Predator20, with 1€ for 1.40US$ the deal is now very interesting ! When I buy parts from the US all the fees are balanced by the rate of exchange ... http://smileys.sur-la-toile.com/repo...ntent/0050.gif What I love in the restoration is precisely to do or redo things, and more precisely the minor details... Andy: nice bill ! |

Welcome to the site! These guys are the best about sharing information and have helped me allot with my 85 SSP/CHP Car! also.... I drove a Peugeot 205 all over Europe in 1990 and even made it back to the Rental car station at Charles de Gaulle International Airport! without hitting anyone!.I like Paris. I can half park in the sidewalk and it's ok! Also are they still running Yellow headlights in France? AND Where in France are you! http://i27.tinypic.com/f2px6p.jpg |
Today the lights are white, like everywhere. Yellow are still authorized on vintages. I'm near Paris, (40km) and close to Disneyland.

WOW really cool pictures:cool: i know everyone here likes seeing them!
if you have been following along on This Site about how members with Marked cars drive them... to and from the shows or short neighborhood trips. then you know that. Here in the States we cover the P O L I C E markings and lights so as not to be confused with actual operating police agency's But in France WOULD THE LOCAL POLICE have a problem with someone driving a Big American Crown Vic fully marked (but not masked) CHP Car as seen in the last photo. in other words? does common sense prevail in that. One....This is a Big American Car In France (and not a Renault) Two....This is France and not California U.S.A (so this must be a restored/display) car so what are the rules about this activity? can i send over my Restored CHP Mustang and drive it around on Holiday? (Holiday means Vacation for you American types on here) See.....and you thought your English was bad:doh: |
One more Question........any T5 Mustang's in the line up of early cars AND or what are some of the DSO Codes
on these cars?? |
The owner of that CHP Crown Vic is a member of several other copcar/LE forums in the US and yes, he has to cover his decals and lightbar when he's on the road in France.

do you also Know the answer to the other questions?:dunno: about the DSO of the cars in the picture? Can we wait for Jean-Paul to answer All the questions? Please... After all He IS guy France not you and not me. |
Loved the pics of your annual gathering!!!
|
Well, in France we have to cover the marking signs only if the word P O L I C E is present (same word in french). But we are allowed to drive with word HIGHWAY PATROL or TROOPER not covered. Because the translation in french is PATROUILLE AUTOROUTE. No word for Trooper (?). The light bar bar must be covered when the car is moving on public road.
|
For the DSO question, some cars are with import DSO's and some others with US DSO's. It does'n matter. We've 2 kinds of titles; the regular for homologated cars (import or local product), and the collector title for vintages and non homologated cars, like US cars non officially imported. With the collector title we have some restrictions for driving. (is my english/american correct enough ?)

Some precisions:
in France we 've 3 kinds of Police. 1) Police Municipale, what I translate nearly by "city Police" or "Local Police". Under the orders of the major. Do you recognize the car ? http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/792...mmontp2ic6.jpg 2) Police Nationale, what I translate nearly by "Federal Police", witch cover the whole territory, but rarely the roads and neither the small cities. http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/6...6bkavdrbr7.jpg 3) Gendarmerie, what I translate nearly by "Sheriff" or "State Trooper", to watch roads and country zones. http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/5...mgcom2fpp3.jpg Subaru Imprezza. |
