Correct, that is the sales lot at Motor T. in West Sacto.

Mike, my unit was 1555. I was the last unit taken out of service in the Glendale fleet. It is interesting the unit numbers are all around my unit.

Sam,

Thanks for sharing these.....great reference shots.

Va 5.0 12-11-2011 10:50 AM

In picture #4 it looks like unit 9094 has 094 on its roof. This is the first time I have seen roof numbers on a CHP mustang.

Thanks for the great pics

CHP did have unmarked camaros for undercover work.

A couple CHP camaros on the sales lot. CHP had the paint shop put Z28 trim on some of the cars.

Interesting that #895309 and #895310 were both "White Ghost" SMPV's.

Rhino 12-24-2011 02:33 PM

I wonder if the 2 Camaros were among the 21 B4C cars? Wild.

They used to be black and whites. CHP had them painted like the mustangs and they tried to get more money out of the cars by putting Z28 kits on some.

I hadn't notice that the ghosts were consecutive unit #s. Thanks for noticing Bill:thumbsup:

Is there a way I could get the vin #s for all the mustangs with visible plates?

Andy 12-24-2011 05:22 PM

Always great stuff!
thank you for posting!

Notice on the second pic of the SSP that you posted today, the car has something on the center caps? This looks like the same car while inservice. Ask your dad if he knows what the purpose was of putting that on the rear center caps. I have been wondering about that for a long time.

Snow chain attachments for those quick release/install types I believe.

93chipper 12-26-2011 09:25 PM

snow chains also notice the studded tires on the picture

Not sure if they are studded or not, but those are the super rare Eagle M & S pursuit snow tires. I had a some on several old cop cars I owned back in the eighties....

You posted a pic of unit #1629. Mine is unit#1628. Also have a buddy's '90 CHP which I'm doing a partial resto on. Unit # is unknown due to the body shop removing it when it was recently painted.

Yes that is my dads 92. I found that issue in his collection a while back and had posted a thread showing the cover.

I sent you the VIN off this car. It is the above unit #.

Wrecked CHP vehicles

Sam,

You have posted a lot of pretty cool pictures of CHP mustangs and other CHP vehicles. But I was looking at the pictures of the wrecked cars and most of those cars either the officer driving it paid the ultimate sacrifice and died doing the job or someone else was seriously injured or killed.

You have posted that you want to be a CHP officer. You will learn as you are doing morning PT and are running by there with your flashlight in hand you will stop there on the service road and do push ups and pay tribute to those officers who gave their life.

Those cars are covered and kept out of view for a reason. If one of those officers who died was one of your friends or you spent six months at the academy with them, seeing those pictures posted is not cool..
Thanks,
John

John,
Mike had posted a picture of that car. That's the one the dept still owns and is over by evoc in the shed. It's 895229.

Chris or Ron, either you guys happen to get grab any photos of Mustangs at MT with the front A-pillar painted black and back about 11" on the front part of the roofline?

I've got one Bill. Scanned from the cover of the CHP magazine, a Santa Barbara Area car.

That is so the violators can not recognize the unit easily approaching or from their rear view mirror :)

I saw this similar paint set up on a 96 OR 97 CV while I was at the Academy in 2000. I thought it was strange. I've never seen it on a Mustang before. Neat.

1986CHPSSP 08-18-2019 11:16 AM

Great documentation! But, where were these cameras in 1986?
