Not long after I got my first Mustang, in July 1986 I began to notice the Texas Highway Patrol Mustangs. I was drawn (and still drawn) to the look of the basic Mustang LX. The LX then didn't have all the fancy GT stuff but it still possessed the GT engine and suspension. Everyone here knows what I am referring to. The innocent looking LX that will do the damage of the GT. Anyway, I find that LX look appealing. And so, not long after I got my new '86 GT Mustang I began wanting an LX 5.0 sedan. That day finally came in February 1990 when I got my first LX 5.0 sedan (an '89 model w/11,000 miles on it).
In summation, I suppose it was the aggressive look of the Texas Highway Patrol Mustang but also the simple look of the regular LX 5.0 sedan. I don't know....I just love 'em! This is what made me begin loving the SSP. |
I have shown Mustangs through MCA for years and always favored LE as I work in it. I remember the SSP Mustang Police cars and was at the MCA Nashville in 2004 and met up with many board members here, saw their cars spoke to them. I got hungry for one. In 2006 I was at the MCA in Birmingham, spoke to many members, and happened to see that ol FHP #0381 was for Sale but was in Ohio. Some 45 days later I was driving # FHP 0381 home. I also had the problem of knowing Mustangretver and seeing his car at local car shows and admiring his car, his knowledge and the crowd that just got glued to his car. I have always favored Missouri cars, living and working in the State and knowing Troopers. I never gave the car a second look in the 90's backing these Troopers up in the KC area on the interstate.
Then there was UNMARKED, down in Atlanta that has a certain blue 90 Missouri Mustang. History of the car, I too knew the Trooper very well and had backed that Trooper up, in that car so many times. Even helped stuffed and cuffed a fellow or two and put him in the front seat. Its the same car today in 2010 ! Ill admit it " Im hooked, Im an SSP Junkie, cant dump my habit", need professional help.........Darn it, I bought another one, to polish and drive this last month (91 Santa Clara Sheriffs Dept. car unit # 91054). I will also admit, that between both boards, I have met some really nice people, who like me, have that very interest in the SSP. I enjoy going to out of state shows and visiting with them and now making the MCA look at the SSP as a very special car. |
ssp love
my love for police cars has been all my life my dad , use to buy gov surpluss all the time, he had 5 acres full of police, military, etc, very young i would go with him to the auctions, i had so much fun , then in oct 1994, my brother bought a 55k miles, 1990 FBI ssp, man i drove that car for two days before he sold it, it was love at first drive, my hands turn sweet, i was 14 years of age at the time, then in my 18 birth day my dad bought me my fisrt ssp , 1991 ssp with 89k miles, we bought it from GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION, wich is a gov contrator for surpluss vehicles, i picked up the car from the FBI BUILDING, i remember the federal agent was very rude colored man, i guess he was mad because we had bought the car, i drove that car and felt like i was dale earnhardt at daytona, from there the love for ssp came, i have own since many mustangs, but ssp are something special, in feb 1998 i sold my FBI SSP, it hurt so much, family emergency came up and the car had to go, at the time i was in high school, and the mcallen police department, had open a new police department to enforce schools, and the morning of march 1998 there was a 1993 ssp, fully equiped, in the entrance of my high school, i follow that car for many years until i bough it at a local, auction, car started at $2,500 dlls, more that 10 guys bidding , i fought proud for my car, won it . many were angry many confused why i had pay so much for a old stang, no one new my story just me.
