Great find on the buildsheet.
Looks like your Dad really hooked you up on the CHP equipment, too. It has taken us years to find some of that stuff. |
Nice score on the build sheet!
|
Thanks guys:)
It has taken my dad years to find equipment too, and he has 4 more CHP mustangs along with over 20 other CHP cars to find equipment for. My dad basically has a complete equipment set for one or 2 cars(I don't know exactly, he may have more special stuff). We will have to have one car all equiped, then when another car is to go to a show(once restored), we will just swap all the main equipment in (wires will already be run). That is how we will deal with the equipment shortage:thumbsup: |
Sam,
Looks like your birthday celebration is continuing into another month!!:D |
Everyday feels like my birthday when I am working on 8337 and invisioning what it will be like driving it down to Ripon next year:D
I cant wait |

The spray paint cans and hand cleaner appear to be locally purchased supplies. Sam, does the smaller plastic bottle look like it could be a rubbing alcohol bottle? Also, can you type out all the markings that appear on the larger bottle? If it's still intact, I'd use the base of the trunk box to build up a new one on. |
What a present! Glad you got it. Keep the progress pics coming.

The stubbier bottle might be water(?). The brand is McGaw, and there is a liquid amount scale on the other side (up to 500 mililiters). That is my plan with the box, other wise I will get measurements for the compartments off another box and what I have to make a new one (with same wood and staples). |
Well, today my car was taken...
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3159.jpg ...on its first drive in 4 years:D http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010466.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010468.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3150.jpg Sadly, I did not get to go as my dad didnt tell me he was going to drive it. He didnt go far as the car still doesnt run good, put it in 2nd and the car would want to die. But it does start and move around:thumbs up: Kinda has the same ride height as Rich's 85. I like it:) http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3157.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3161.jpg First bath in 4 years:D http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3164.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3165.jpg After. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3190.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3201.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3169.jpg And vaccumed it out. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3172.jpg |
The one bottle looks like rubbing alcohol (which also can be used for fuel line freeze up prevention depending on the % and as an antiseptic too). Car looks great on the road there Sam!! Don't worry... won't be long and it will be running around with you in a short while!

What is this? There are bolts at is at the back corners of the floor boards(verticle part of the floor, right below the seat)
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3174.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3175.jpg Sorting out all the aftermarket radio wires. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3186.jpg My new fav shots:) http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3203.jpg Just need some badges on the doors and some black paint:D http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3187.jpg |
if the bolts are on the passenger side below the back seat it could be like mine was with a bolt that stuck out where the handcuffed the prisoner to
|
There is one on both sides of the car. My dads 89 CHP EVOC has them too.
|
if it wants to die i would check the fuel filter since it was sitting it may be clogged or not flowing properly

Just checked the EVOC car, I for got it didn't have any.
Are those straps hard to get? How would they mount/be used? |
Wow! after seeing how you washed it, my car hasn't been washed for 7+ years... but doesn't have green slime but DIRTY! Nice to see it being driven... hope you guys fix the stalling issue, it could be bad gas tank or fuel pump or fuel filter...
|
I am going to rebuild the original carb and give the engine a tune up. My plan is to still redo the interior here soon, and get the car running good enough to drive. After that I will possibly do a full suspension/mechanical overhaul- repaint/clean everything, add new bushings to the suspention, and go through the engine installing new gasquets. Then in the spring start on body and paint.

Wonder if springs out of a v6 car would be the smae as what my car needs( I have an 85 v6 convertible parts car).
I also wonder if my car had trim rings while inservice. There are the scarches in the wheels from trim rings. There is an inservice pic of an 82 on the chp restoration page on the main NET site. |

Springs and spring rates are specific to vehicle type and vehicle equipment in most cases. Most basic cars in general might have springs that will physically fit into another but the spring rate would be wrong. The higher performance a car is, the more significant a spring rate is used to get the car to handle correctly with all of it's components and it can be complex when looking at this problem. Mostly, V6 and V8 car springs are rated different simply because the weight of the engines might be different.
So Reader's Digest version Sam is that you really need to find the specific springs for your car that were designed to be in your car. |
Thanks Rich:)
So I would have to find springs and stuff off of an SSP? Could an 85 5.0 coupe be the same? |
Sam, the springs/shocks/struts for a 5.0L GT or LX hardtop are what you'll need. The spring rates for a convertible MAY be different.
|
or go to fox restoration and buy brand new springs, that way you have no wear on the springs or have to be concerned on the integrity of the springs i would also change out the ball joints since they are over 20 years old and it will save you a fender
|
More I'm thinking, I think I will wait on the suspentsion until I have all the new stuff together. Otherwise if I get it all apart, it may be a while before I can get new parts so the car would just sit. I don't want that to happen while other stuff can be done.
Could some of the 85s have had a dual gun rack? If I can't find out where my car served, I think it would be cool to put in a dual rack (if they came in a mustang in 85). I would be making one from scratch( using my some of my dads aero chp racks as a template. Then I would need measure ments for the rack to dash mount) |

Speaking of embellishments, I caught a dusey of one at a CHP event yesterday - simulated twin 50 cal. machine gun barrels protruding from the massive front winch bumper of a Dodge Ram MRE (commercial enforcement) unit! :p |

Lots-O-Work done
Did a lot of work on Casper this afternoon. Stripped the interior, removed bumpers, taillights, fenders, mouldings and trim. Gonna try and start body work tomorrow. Everything appears to be very straight with no rust to be found on the body. There are just a couple surface rust spots though.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010483.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010485.jpg No Rust!! http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010489.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010490.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010493.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3222.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010538.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010539.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010541.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010542.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3252.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3237.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3226.jpg |
Good job Sam! Keep it up.
|
Thanks! I will:)
My car also has its original spare wheel/tire. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3244.jpg |
Wow you have made more progress than i have... Nice job dude on the casper! :2thumbs:
|
Thanks!
More work was done today:) The paint materials/prep work was done so cheaply, that the paint was coming off with a putty knife and razor blade:eek: http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3281.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3280.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3282.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3287.jpg Repainted the int. mirror covers. Before http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3303.jpg After http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3304.jpg Restored one of the 5.0 emblems(bottom one). The other will come later. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3311.jpg Not the correct plate, but it is a CHP plate:D http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3346.jpg The "fog" happened in the afternoon. One of my dads crown vics had been in a roll over while inservice. My dad changed the engine and swapped different components to the new engine, one of which was the intake. The intake plenum was full of oil, so when the car started, smoke billowed out of the pipes. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_3411.jpg I also got all but one of the door moulding off. I used a putty knife and a sledge hammer:D |
Just so you can see how the "fog" happened;)
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...s/IMG_3414.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...s/IMG_3419.jpg The "fog" is all the way out to the farthest white roof (center, just right a tad) http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...s/IMG_3418.jpg |
Nice progress Sam! Thanks for the pictures... :)
|
Time for a couple vids:D
Is it normal for my car to be nearly silent at the tips? There is just a faint sound of exhaust tone. The noise in the video is from the engine compartment (motor itself is loud). I also got to "drive" it for the first time. It was only 30ft but it was fun:D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nuwrc9GMAmE http://www.youtube.com/user/oneof6km.../1/Ybjcqa4uZm8 |
