Apparently quite a few people knew about this one but I was shocked to learn that another Border Patrol unit exists. Said to be in the Tucson Sector. A very exciting find!

I kinda like that green color also.

Received this message today from the Border Patrol Museum Board President. Sounds like it has been restored and will be back on display at the museum soon.

Mr. Powell,

The vehicle you are speaking about was donated to the Border Patrol Museum by the Tucson Sector Border Patrol through official channels. It had sat in a lot in Tucson for a number of years but, perhaps two years ago, the Lordsburg Border Patrol Station asked if they could retrieve the vehicle, recondition it and use it as a recruiting tool with the understanding they would return it to the Museum upon completion of their recruiting mission. It is my understanding they have completed the restoration and are wanting to return it to the Museum.

Since we already have one of the original three vehicles that were purchased as part of this pursuit vehicle program we would like to have the Mustang to complement the Firebird.

One of three meaning three different types of pursuit vehicles? Or three Mustangs?
"If" three different type of pursuit vehicles, then what was the Third?

Hmmm got my curiosity up  lol

SSP Central states:

In the early 90's the US Border Patrol Tucson Sector had a program called Project Roadrunner. The purpose of the program was to reduce the number and length of pursuits using vehicles quicker than the traditional police cars at the time. The border patrol purchased a Chevy Z-28 Camaro, SSP Ford Mustang, and a Pontiac Firebird for this project. All three vehicles were equipped with Jetsonic lightbars and a roll cage.
Here is the Firebird

I'm confused. The pic posted here of the mustang with the broken tail light was taken only a few months ago. I still don't know if there are one or two.

I received a follow up today that the car is not quite in the condition it was first expressed. More to come....

Perhaps "restoration" to them means airing up the tires and topping off the tank???
